Events, Education & Training
Education around end of life, death literacy, natural death care, and natural body disposal options are at the core of what NDAN is about; teaching you about your options and how to communicate your wishes within the community of your close friends and family.
When NDAN was first formed in 2014 it was, in part, a way for people working outside the formal ‘end of life’ system to connect and grow stronger as a community. There were no events, no training, and very fragmented and limited resources available for people to educate themselves.
In the years since NDAN’s establishment there have been many new developments and offerings. People now have different types of experiences, training, education, background, expertise in higher education, or a good deal of lived experience - this is important to note as the end of life space is rapidly changing.
The following are places and offerings to help you engage with the wider community. You may choose to explore some or all of them, especially if you are looking for a stronger grounding or experience for helping someone you love.
EVENTS:
There are many events held by NDAN members around Australia and online. Please visit our ‘events’ page to see if there is an event you may be interested. NDAN financial members are invited to list their events online via their membership portal.
Alternatively, please visit our NDAN Facebook page, as we will regularly share our member’s events as well as interesting articles etc.
NDAN has a suite of workshop-style events that we would be happy to present in your community. Please contact us directly so we can discuss your communities needs.
EDUCATION:
Formal qualifications are not a requirement for death care, but you may want to explore some of the training options here if you are considering supporting someone in your community or your own family.
There are a variety of offerings with different focuses and outcomes in regard to end of life in Australia. The following courses may be of interest to those seeking qualifications in aspects of dying and death care:
Grief Australia - Everyone deserves access to the help they need in their grief experience, and Grief Australia has many workshops and programs available.
CareSearch - The CareSearch Project consolidates online palliative care knowledge for health professionals, people needing palliative care and their families, and for the general community.
Australia Home Funeral Alliance - The Australian Home Funeral Alliance (AHFA) is the national peak body for home funeral practitioners and advocates, dedicated to the empowerment of families and communities through the provision of ethical and inclusive education, information and advocacy for home funerals and family directed death care options in Australia.
